Eight days long, the port of Scheveningen is the place to be for sailing and water sports. You can take your first sailing lesson, go water skiing, and there is an entire waterlab to learn more about water. Several sailing classes hold their Championships during this week too.

But there’s much more to experience. Come play beach volleyball on the beach, join a golf clinic and come watch demonstrations of the Royal Navy. In the Innovation Pavilion, innovative companies from the region itself will present smart easy ways to improve the world and the environment. In addition, quite a few artists will visit the main stage for epic musical entertainment!

Beach Volleyball

Beach volleyball is booming and will therefore be present at the beach during the Volvo Ocean Race. There will be a number of fields available where you can learn some useful volleyball trucks. These fields are available from 24 June to 1 July and are available for all ages. Do you challenge your friends to a game of beach volleyball?


The large-scale Boat EXPO, being held alongside the Volvo Ocean Race, will be the sailing fair of the summer of 2018, with numerous stands and suppliers offering the latest in boat materials and navigation systems, as well as clothing, travel and lifestyle products. Many of the stands will have special offers and promotions especially for the Volvo Ocean Race. Enjoy a drink and a bite while you browse the many shops and experience everything the sailing community has to offer.

Play Golf!

Adults and children can experience with help of a professional how magical a first contact of a club with a golf ball is. Swing in the battle cages, chipping in the water and putting on the mini-green. For children, the fun is endless with the cool golf games, where collecting points has never been so fun.

During the Finish of the Volvo Ocean Race days the team of Peter Lynn Kitesports will provide power kite clinics. Here young and old can try, under expert guidance, what it is like to powerkite. During this free clinic you play with the power of the wind and you will notice: ‘Powerkiten is fun’! Many kitesurfers have learned with powerkiten how to manage a kite well. In addition, kiting is a very healthy workout.

Optimist On Tour

Many Volvo Ocean Race sailors started sailing in an Optimist. Through the Optimist on Tour programme from the Dutch Watersport Federation, thousands of Dutch children have become acquainted with sailing as well as canoeing, SUP and other watersports. During the Finish of the Volvo Ocean Race two side events, specifically for children, will take place: the Optimist on Tour and the European Championship Optimist. What could be better than the heroes of the future being shown the way by the heroes of today!

SWKGroep KidsCorner

The Volvo Ocean Race finish in the Hague is an event for all ages. Especially for children there is the KidsCorner of SWKGroep. Here, kids can find fun activities, games and water fun in the waterlab all day long. Kids wondering around without Mom or Dad? Lets reunite them here!

VISSCH, is the annual North Sea fish festival at Scheveningen. For the 5th time, VISSCH is being organized at the Fish Auction in Scheveningen. Come and learn the insight of North Sea fishing and experience and taste in the heart of the fishery. With demos of famous chefs, presentations, workshops, a fish market, an auction and lots of goodies, this will be a success.

VIS|SCH will be open from 29th of June to 1st of July.

The Royal Dutch Navy

The Royal Dutch Navy will be present during the Volvo Ocean Race.

Besides two impressive ships there will also be a climbing tower and bridge stimulator.

Legends Races

While the Dutch have always had strong ties to the Volvo Ocean Race, never before has the finish been in The Netherlands. To celebrate this unique occasion, a special reunion has been organised for all Dutch and international boats, captains and crews that have ever participated in the Volvo Ocean Race. A number of these participants will once again compete against each other in this unique Legends Race.

Red Bull Foiling Generation is about providing talented young sailors, ages 16 – 20 with the opportunity to advance their careers through top-notch hydrofoil racing.

European Championship Optimist sailing

350 youngsters from all over Europe will take part in the official European Championship, organised by the International Optimist Association andopen to participants up to 15 years old. Optimist sailing is the breeding ground for future Olympic sailing talent, so don’t be surprised if you see some of these kids on the podium in the 2024 Olympic Games!

Coastal Rowing

On 1 July, a demonstration contest coastal rowing will be organized. The starting line of the race is to the West of the harbour and the finish is in the outer harbour. In total, it’s a race-distance of 2 km. One race takes about 15 minutes and there rowing 8 boats in every race.

School Programmes

In the run-up to the Finish of the Volvo Ocean Race in The Hague, more than 20.000 school kids will be introduced to sailing and surfing, with a specially designed programme featuring theoretical and practical lessons. During swimming sessions, pupils will learn, amongst other things, what to do when a boat capsizes. During the finish week, participating schools will visit the Volvo Ocean Race and spend a day filled with cultural and sportive activities. Pupils that wish to pursue their initial interest with sailing can sign up for a trial membership with a sailing club.


The main goal of the Watermakers-project is to create paid work opportunities for job-seekers with distance to the labour market leading up to and around the finish of the Volvo Ocean Race in the Hague. Watermakers offers local talent – job seekers, status holders and students, the chance to get started at companies, suppliers and organizations involved in the finish of the biggest sailing race in the world.
